People say that it only takes one song to bring back a thousand memories. Usually that is true for me if a song is playing during a specific moment in my life, that song will always be connected to the memory. Here are a few songs that do that to me.
" We are never getting back together" - Taylor Swift
This song was playing on a loop when I was hanging out with my friends one day. They were talking about A guy I had liked at the time ( kind of negatively I might add). It was at that moment that I realized it was time for me to get over him. I mean , why hold on to feelings for a person who doesn't feel the same way? That song still leaves me with a little ache but it also reminds me how glad I am that I made the decision that I did.
" Don't stop believing" - Journey
This song brings back too many memories to count but I'll mention a few. First, it reminds me of the night I met my boyfriend ( it was one of the first songs we danced to ). Secondly it was practically the anthem for high school marching band my junior year. We played a journey show and we would turn up the song in the band room to sing along too. Not to mention it was an empowering song in glee , one of my favorite shows. I have so many good memories with this song and it will always be a favorite.
" everything you're not"- Demi Lovato
This song reminds me of the insecurity I had my freshman year of high school , thinking I would lose my boyfriend. I had this dream that we went together to another dance. I went dressed nice, thinking it was semi formal but it wasn't. He had showed up before me and was dancing by another girl to a fast pace song. Though she was dressed casually , I still thought she was prettier than me. She was an upperclassman like he was and athletic too. When I finally got him to dance with me to the song in bold above. The song started out slow so he had his arms around me . His focus was on the other girl though and when the song sped up , he let go and danced with the other girl. I don't experience that insecurity much anymore because my boyfriend always reminds me how much I mean to him.
" wind beneath my wings"- ?
This song always reminds me of my grandmother's funeral. I had lost her when I was about 9. My older cousin had sang this song so beautifully there. The song is so inspiring though , just like my grandmother was. It's still hard for me not to feel like crying when I hear this song.
" September" - Earth , wind and fire
More marching band memories. Earth , wind and fire was a show we had my senior year. A main memory I have of this song was piling into my cousin( the drum majors) vehicle after a party and jamming out to this song as he drove to take everyone home. That was a great marching season. Oh my , I could make a whole list of songs that remind me of my high school band but I don't think I have enough time and I would side track me from what I am currently posting.
What songs bring back memories to you?
Until next time ,

ReplyDeleteThank you , It feels good to share.:)
DeleteI love the song Wind Beneath My Wings, such a beautiful song. I have so many memories I think of with songs. Some wonderful but some sad. Isn't it amazing that music can be so powerful!
ReplyDeleteYa I agree, Music is amazing. :)
DeleteI love this. I am such a huge advocate for using music as a personal form of expression. There are so many songs I relate to very personal times in my life, and I swear, music is one of the only things that can help me get through the most difficult of times.
ReplyDeleteI recently saw Taylor Swift in concert and, as she was performing "We Are Never Getting Back Together" I experienced a very similar feeling as the one you wrote about in this post. Taylor's music, in general, has a very therapeutic effect on me, which is why I love her as much as I do!
Awesome post, darling!
Thank you so much! Music is my favorite form of expression and I don't think I could live with out it.
DeleteTaylor swift has been one of my favorite singers ever since jr high. I love that her music is so relatable and each song tells a story. Weather it's a love song or a song about "shaking off" the mean things people say, she always knows how to connect with her audience.
