Songs that make me feel good
Mary Ann from "Don't burst my bubble" is doing a week of post about self love ( you can check it out her blog Here) . Anyway it has really got me thinking about ways I try to get myself to feel confident in myself. To me music is a very powerful thing. I thought I would share a few songs that empower me , a favorite line from each and why they mean so much to me.
Put your records on- Corinne Bailey Rae
" you're gonna find yourself somewhere , somehow."
This song is laid back yet you can still move to it. It says that it's ok that you don't have everything perfect and you may be afraid. It encourages us to let loose and follow our dreams. When I sing this song , I feel I can add my own style and soul to it.
And Run - He is we
" stop bringing my self down, I got to know what makes me great"
This song is about finding the courage to go your own way and make your own decision. I'm at the point in my life where I am starting to grow up and making my own plans. It's kind of scary but like it says "take a breath and run". Just go for it. It's about opening your mind to all the options in the world and building the confidence to take chances.
Fight song- Rachel Platten
" all those things I didn't say, wreaking balls inside my brain , I will scream them loud tonight .can you hear my voice this time?"
This summer , I've kind of felt like I'm in a rut. I've been emotional and unmotivated. This month I've been starting to get out of it and this song has really been inspiration. It's easy to just stay the same but we are meant to move forward to do great things. We need to believe in ourselves and keep fighting till we make it out of the dark.
Just fine - Mary J. Blige
" so I like what I see when I'm looking at me when I'm walking past the mirror"
This is a song that promotes loving your self and your life. Being happy with who you are and not letting anything get you down. This song always makes me want to dance.
Beautiful things- Gungor
"you make beautiful things out of us"
This is a religious song that talks about how we are made beautifully by God and he makes us new.
My self image has always been low , being so skinny and having skin problems. It helps me to remember that God made me how he likes me and he doesn't make mistakes.
The best damn thing- Avril Lavigne
Avril is a BA , let me just say that to start off with that. She doesn't care what people think and I like that confidence she has. This song is about knowing your worth and making sure your guy treats you right. It's like" I know I'm crazy but I'm awesome".
KIng of anything- Sara barellies
"waiting for someone to tell me it's my turn to decide"
Most of my life, I have been a people pleaser . That isn't always a bad thing but it could be unhealthy when you let people control you and you don't have say in what you want in life. Plus , you can't please everyone.
Take me or leave me - From the musical Rent
"take me for what I am , who I was meant to be"
Despite being sung by lesbians, I think any girl should have the confidence in themselves to not change themselves for someone she likes. Saying , You can take me as I am , flaws and all, or leave me. To me this song is about being comfortable with who you are.
Brave - Sara Barellies
"Let your words be anything but empty"
Sara barellies is one of my inspirations and this song is another favorite because I really connect with it. I've always been the quiet type but I am working on speaking up.
What songs motivate you?

Things every marching band geek knows
I know this is a bit different but it does relate to music.
I've been feeling really nostalgic lately about band in high school. Marching band was life back then. I spent most of my days at practice , the band room and football games.
I just thought I'd share what I think every band geek knows. If you aren't a band geek , than you get to learn what it's like for them.
1. Circles are hard to make
2. your dot is your spot
3.standing next to one piccolo is uncomfortable , standing between two is torture
4. marching on step becomes habit
5. water breaks are the best part of practice
6.being mauled by a drum or hit by a flag is no laughing matter
7.changing together is no big deal
8.those spontaneous jam session are the best
9.one more time doesn't always mean one more time
10. the band is family
are there any band geeks out there? any of these relevant to you ?

Music exploration
Discovering new songs ( or old songs that I hadn't heard before ) is always fun to me but I've realized that I haven't been doing that enough lately. I'd be ridding along with friends listening to the radio , they would be singing. A lot of the songs I didn't know so I wouldn't be able to sing with them. I've been so focused on the usual songs and I need some fresh songs to jam to.
So put down your favorite song down in the comments and I'll listen to them. Maybe some of them will end up becoming some of my favorites too. Thanks. :)

disney playlist for today
It's been awhile since I've done a playlist so I thought I'd do one today. If you don't already know I love Disney. It was a major part of my childhood and I just never grew out of it. But honestly there is no such thing as too old for Disney. So here is a list of some of my favorite Disney songs to sing along with.
" I'll make a man out of you" - from Mulan
" when will my life begin?" - from Tangled
" That's how you know"- from Enchanted
"Under the sea"- From The little mermaid
" Just can't wait to be king" - from The Lion King
" For the first time in forever"- from Frozen
" Part of your world "- From the little mermaid
"One jump ahead " - from Aladdin
There as so many more but these are the ones I can think of at the moment.
What are some of you favorite Disney songs? let's talk about it in the comments. :)\

Songs connected to a memory
People say that it only takes one song to bring back a thousand memories. Usually that is true for me if a song is playing during a specific moment in my life, that song will always be connected to the memory. Here are a few songs that do that to me.
" We are never getting back together" - Taylor Swift
This song was playing on a loop when I was hanging out with my friends one day. They were talking about A guy I had liked at the time ( kind of negatively I might add). It was at that moment that I realized it was time for me to get over him. I mean , why hold on to feelings for a person who doesn't feel the same way? That song still leaves me with a little ache but it also reminds me how glad I am that I made the decision that I did.
" Don't stop believing" - Journey
This song brings back too many memories to count but I'll mention a few. First, it reminds me of the night I met my boyfriend ( it was one of the first songs we danced to ). Secondly it was practically the anthem for high school marching band my junior year. We played a journey show and we would turn up the song in the band room to sing along too. Not to mention it was an empowering song in glee , one of my favorite shows. I have so many good memories with this song and it will always be a favorite.
" everything you're not"- Demi Lovato
This song reminds me of the insecurity I had my freshman year of high school , thinking I would lose my boyfriend. I had this dream that we went together to another dance. I went dressed nice, thinking it was semi formal but it wasn't. He had showed up before me and was dancing by another girl to a fast pace song. Though she was dressed casually , I still thought she was prettier than me. She was an upperclassman like he was and athletic too. When I finally got him to dance with me to the song in bold above. The song started out slow so he had his arms around me . His focus was on the other girl though and when the song sped up , he let go and danced with the other girl. I don't experience that insecurity much anymore because my boyfriend always reminds me how much I mean to him.
" wind beneath my wings"- ?
This song always reminds me of my grandmother's funeral. I had lost her when I was about 9. My older cousin had sang this song so beautifully there. The song is so inspiring though , just like my grandmother was. It's still hard for me not to feel like crying when I hear this song.
" September" - Earth , wind and fire
More marching band memories. Earth , wind and fire was a show we had my senior year. A main memory I have of this song was piling into my cousin( the drum majors) vehicle after a party and jamming out to this song as he drove to take everyone home. That was a great marching season. Oh my , I could make a whole list of songs that remind me of my high school band but I don't think I have enough time and I would side track me from what I am currently posting.

real music is dying
I'm not a big fan of a lot of the modern day pop. I mean I still like some of the singers like Colbie Caillet , Sara barellies, Christina Perri and Taylor Swift ( some of her new songs but I like her older songs best). When did the music industry stop being about raw talent. Todays music seems all about the clothes or special effects.
For awhile I felt like lady gaga was only famous because of the crazy outfit she wears.she put away the costumes and auto tune for a little while and I was impressed (.see here https://youtu.be/dSgQqSmZz6k ) dang why can't she sing like that all the time.
Katy Perry is all about the special effects , just look at her super bowl performance. I was so distracted that I couldn't even focus on her singing.
Anyway, too many stars are using auto tune. Seriously? Someday everyone ( except for the select few that know good music ) will be listening to robot music ( techno). "performers" will say " what's an acoustic guitar? We have a button on our sound board that makes Guitar sounds, does that count?". That will be the day the music dies, ( actually the day the music died was when Buddy Holly , the big bopper and Richie Valens died in a plane crash . But you young ones probably don't know who any of those people are).
They point is I want to see singers who are actually talented. They know how to play an instruments and sing without auto tune ( it's ok if their voice cracks sometimes , for some singers it's actually pretty sexy). They shouldn't need to be extravagant with props to have a good show.
That's what I like about the oldies , people actually used their God given talents of singing and dancing. It was tougher to become famous but if a band/ solo artist made it big , they were grateful.
Now days people just have to spread a video around the internet and instant fame. People don't even need many instruments to make music , they have computers. If they got a repetitive ear worm tune , they've got the minds of thousands of teenagers. Sometimes I can't even tell the difference between singers on the radio because they are lacking individuality.
I don't mean to offend anyone , just typing what is on my mind. Rant over.

I need feedback
So I've been doing this blog for a little over a month now and it hasn't taken off much ( in comparison to my other blog).
My first post was a review of Ed Sheeran's recent CD "X" and it didn't have any views. I've mainly been posting playlists but I want to do more . I'm wondering if I should do more music reviews. I could possible make a list of my favorite Disney movies and songs. Maybe post a few of my original songs. Just brainstorming a little.
If anyone is reading , Let me know what I'm doing right, if you can thing of ways I could improve and if you like any of my ideas for posts. I really want to keep this blog going because music is my passion.

My top 15 favorite musicals
To me , there has always been something magical about musicals. The set , the spontaneous burst into song, plots and the costumes.
I've been watching them all my life and have grown quite fond of them. Rating them was hard like picking a favorite child. These might not be in the exact order but at least you kind of get an idea.
#15 Seven brides for seven brothers
an oldie but goody. The story is about a woman who marries a man who lives with his brothers in the woods. They aren't very proper so she teaches them manners. They meet girls at a festival and decide to kidnap them ( kind of funny yet weird). This one is lesser know than some of the ones I have on this list but it is worth the watch.
#14 Singing in the rain
Most people know this movie ( at least I hope they do). This one I've always wanted to finish but don't get the chance. My favorite song is " Make them laugh", it's very funny.
#13 My Fair Lady
I really like the cockney accent, it's so neat. I wouldn't want to change that accent but I guess it's "unsophisticated" in England. My speech coach had me put marbles in my mouth and my response was " It's like my fair lady". It's been awhile since I've seen this one but it is very memorable and classic.
#12 Cinderella
This is one I got to see live. It's a nice play but the music isn't an earworm like the other musicals below. I could relate to Cinderella when she sings " in my own little corner". Cinderella has always been one of my favorite fairy tales no matter what version ( especially the recent live action Disney one , Ahh!). I definitely want to re watch this one sometime.
#11 The Music Man
I'm a band geek so this one definitely got my attention. We sang the songs from it in Jr High choir. My favorite song to sing is good night my someone. This movie is definitely a classic in my book.
#10 Mama Mia
I'm a sucker for romance and this one definitely has it. Not only does the main character fall in love but so does her mother. It's a wacky plot but that's what makes it fun to watch. "Mama Mia" and "Honey Honey" are always stuck in my head.
#9 Hairspray
It was a wonderful message of following your dreams and fighting for what you believe in. It's so funny seeing John Travolta as a woman and Zac Efron is a dreamy Link. The music makes me want to dance and sing along every time. I love the setting of the 50's / 60's. It seems that "life was simple then". ;)
#8 Rent
This is one I don't get to see very often because I have a little brother who is too young to see it. However I love it .It's sad at parts but that's life. "take me or leave me " is my jam, it's always a confidence booster. I recently watched part of the stage version of it on YouTube and was surprised about how different it was.
# 7 Mary Poppins
This is another childhood favorite. I watched it on a recorded VHS but part of it was missing. I finally got to see the rest of the movie last year. When I watched saving Mr.Banks , I loved this movie even more. It helped me understand the movie better. I would love to see it on stage, that is on my bucket list.
# 6 west side story
I got to watch this one on Broadway when I went to New York the summer before high school.
Not only did we get to see the show but we also got to learn the song " America" with the lady who played Anita. This play was not only romantic but it also had a lot of action.
#5 Grease
I've been watching this one before I even knew what the sexual references meant. In band and choir we performed the music from it so this musical always brings back good memories from high school. I also got to see a small community college production of it. There was only one set scene but they did wonderfully with what they had.
#4 chitty chitty bang bang
This is another musical I got to see live. It was so cool seeing the car fly and all the dogs on the stage.I would so want a toot sweet just to play that song. I think this is a wonderful story about a father and his children.
#3 the sound of music
This is another I would watch over and over on vhs as a kid. I was a little disappointed with the NBC remake but I still love this musical none the less. I didn't realize it had Nazi's until I learned history
#2 wicked
Of course after seeing the wizard of OZ I had to see the story of Glinda and Alfaba. I saw this about 3 years ago and was amazed. I had already known some of the songs since I learned them at girl scout camp so it was nice to put the story with the music.
#1 The Wizard of OZ
This was the first musical I ever saw live in a theater. I was 5 so I can't remember it. However I remember always watching it on vhs at home. I had wizard of OZ dolls and a Dorothy costume as a kid. It's such a magical musical: the colors, the songs and the lovable characters. "Somewhere over the rainbow" will always be an inspiring song to me.
These are only a few of the musicals that are out there and I can't wait to watch more.
Do you like musicals? If so what are some of your favorites?

If so what are some of your favorites?
until next time,

Dear Blogger buddies and a few music choices of the day
( I just felt like writing a letter to my Blogger friends, I know this is on my other blog too , but I just want to make sure it is seen).
Dear Blogger Buddies,
When I started this blog last month , I didn't know what to expect. I wasn't sure if my blog would ever be noticed on the web and if it was even worth doing. I thought I wouldn't have anything to write about or anyone would care. When I started posting , a few of you commented and encouraged me with some good advice. Who knew I could find great people I could relate to on here? I have a feeling this is the start of something great. I may not know many of you in person but I appreciate you. My follower list is small but steadily growing. Feel this is a safe place to express myself. You guys make me smile . I enjoy reading your blogs. Thanks for the support and I hope to continue hearing from you.
Rock on,
- Adorkable Darling
P.s.
Here are a few songs I'm listening to today. I'm kind of in a pop mood.
"King of anything" - Sara Bareilles
"Brighter than the sun"- Colbie Caillet
"Break away"- Kelly Clarkson
" Girls chase boys " - Ingrid Michaelson

Songs that introduced me to my favorite artists
We hear music everywhere and we don't always make a big deal about it. But every so often there is a song that makes us stop and listen. A song that opens a gate to more songs when we decide we want to hear more from this band/ artist. So here are the stories of how I found my favorite artists and the first song I liked of theirs.
" for you and your denial"- Yellowcard
I bought an album called " another hopeless summer". The only reason I bought it is that it was only $2.99( I think). A vey good deal. With this album , I was introduced to many different artists ( which also includes another one of my favorites , We are the in crowd,).
I was attracted to the song above because of its fast pace , poetic lyrics and mostly the violin. At the time I had never heard violin outside of the classical genre until then. I really like it.
"Terrible things " - Mayday parade
This is a song a friend in my first hour senior year said I needed to listen to. I started listening to it and I thought "who is he singing this to? "I thought he was singing to a girl his age until he said "when I met your mother the girl of my dreams". I was like "what?" Haha! Anyway I found out later he was singing to his son. It's a sweet song but then it gets sad. It always makes me want to cry and that's the power of music.
" ignorance" - Paramore
This is a band that I've heard before this song came out but I didn't pay much attention to them. It's kind of sad. Anyway, I first heard this song on a Karaoke video game I have. I played this song quite often and it is a song that effected my change in singing style.
" you had me at hello " - a day to remember
I found this song on YouTube after listening to another song by the same title from a disney channel movie ( don't judge me).
At the time I was falling in love with the boy I am currently with so I related to It a little .Its a bit softer than the rest of the band's music but that's ok , I like both types they play.
I think that is enough story telling for now, I'll tell more about my music taste later. I encourage everyone to explore music and find their own style.

Great day tunes
As you can tell from the title , I've had a great day. My style is on point, class was interesting and I got some good news. Of course my music preferences reflects that tonight. I also feel like a throwback Thursday by playing some of the songs I listened to in Elementary School/ Jr. high. Not the best music but it makes me reminisce about simpler days. Solo dance party over here.( the first isn't one I heard during childhood it's just a song that always makes me feel good).
Here are my song choices. Enjoy (:
"Just fine" by Mary J Blige
"oops I did it again" by Brittany Spears
"1,2 step" by Ciara ft. Missy Elliot
"Fergalicious" by Fergie
" Girlfriend " By Avril Lavigne
"Kryptonite " by 3 doors down
"Independent women" by Destiny's Child
" Get the party started" by P!nk
" every time we touch" by Cascada
" see you again" by Miley Cyrus
What are your throwback Thursday jams?

Song inpiration to get me through the day
If you've been following my other blog, you know that I'm very self conscious and I have my moments where I tear myself down.
Anyway, a few months ago my sister ( not a biological sister , I just call her that because she is a good friend of mine and my parents pretended to adopt her) recommended I make a cover of this song , "Weak" by Daphne Khoo. It's a really pretty song but as I listen to the lyrics they fit me so well. I just thought I'd share the lyrics with you. I also recommend you look it up and listen to it on you tube.
Weak
It’s hard to smile
at my reflection,
when I wake up, I wonder why
all I see, are the imperfections.
All the proof that i’m not alright.
Oh and I confess
that none of this makes sense,
A new struggle everyday, ohhh
But I know sometimes,
we gotta be lost to find,
to find our way
don’t be afraid
Even the strong cry,
when no one’s looking
we try not to be scared on the outside,
but I know that there’s strength from the fall,
it’s not weak, to be weak at all.
behind these eyes,
a world is hiding
where I feel safe, but so alone
all these scars, they keep me fighting
for a place I can call my own
Oh and I confess
that none of this makes sense,
A new struggle everyday, ohhh
But I know sometimes,
we gotta be lost to find,
to find our way
don’t be afraid
Even the strong cry,
when no one’s looking
we try not to be scared on the outside,
but I know that there’s strength from the fall,
it’s not weak, to be weak at all.
I hope that any one who may be struggling can hear this song and feel it's message. It's ok to cry and working through your weakness helps you find your strength. Never give up and I'll be praying for you.

That ginger has soul! an Ed Sheeran review
Hello ,
welcome to my new blog about music. Here I will review CDs , post playlists based on my mood and just talk about anything music. Today I will be sharing my thoughts on Ed Sheeran's recent CD, "X".( note: the songs with the *'s by them I don't have them on my computer but I'll come back to write their review later)
Track 1: One.
A soft sweet song with acoustic guitar and Ed singing in a high falsetto tone , very swoon worthy.
Track 2: I'm a mess
It's a bit more upbeat than the previous but the acoustic is still there which I really like.
Track 3:Sing
A catchy radio hit but a bit mainstream for my liking(haha I sound like a hipster). Talks about a fling at a party which is common for stereotypical pop song. I'll dance to it in my room but I won't find a way to relate to it.
Track4: Don't
A song that was written about Ellie Goulding and Niall Horan .It' the first song I heard from this album before I bought the CD. I like jamming out the this song but it doesn't have emotional value to me.
track 5: Nina *
Track 6 : Photograph
One of my absolute favorites. It's one of those songs that moves me to tears every time. It talks about the struggles of a long distance relationship. Makes me think about how it's going to be hard when I leave for university. The message I get is love isn't always easy but it's worth it. Favorite lines" Loving can heal, loving can mend your soul......and it's the only thing we take with us when we die".
Track 7: Blood stream*
Track 8: Tenerife sea
To me this song has a bit of a folk feel to it. I like the tambourine and drum in it. It's a cute love song
track 9:Run away*
Track 10: the man
I this is the first time I really heard Ed Sheeran rap and I though he was good. He's no Emminem but he has skills. Fave line is " Success is nothing if you have no one there left to share it with".
Track 11: Thinking out loud
Another one of my favorite songs on here and the music video is just as good. Who knew Ed could dance like that !? It's one of those songs that make you dream about happily ever after ( I'm not talking jumping on a horse with a prince and ridding off into the sunset towards the castle you'll be living in) . The really happily ever after where you love someone and grow old together. "cause honey your soul could never grow old, it's evergreen" favorite line. One of the few songs they play on the pop radio stations that I don't get tired of.
Track 12:afire love
This song is a bit sad but still a pretty song. The piano is a nice touch to it. I got excited when I heard the violin at the end because violin makes any song better.
track 13:take it back
I like the flow of this one. The guitar gives it a good beat. More rap but it's like poetry to me. The chorus is the only part sung and it seems soulful.
track 14: shirt sleeve
This song didn't really stick out to me. But I think the line "when salted tears run dry I'll wipe my shirt sleeve under your eyes" really shows his caring nature.
track 15: even my dad sometimes
the main instrument is piano and that is unique to this album. It feels like a lullaby to me ( Just the music, not really the lyric).
Track 16: I see fire
I like the accapella beginning and this is one of the few songs that aren't about love. It adds a little variety.
Track 17: All the stars
I think this song perfectly describes "the fault in our stars". I haven't even heard the sound track for TFIOS but I knew right away this song is on it. It's an easy going song and I like it.
Overall , I really like this album and Ed Sheeran. I like how his british accent comes through when he sings. There are songs show his rebellious side and others that show his sweet sensitive side. It proves you can't just label him. some of the songs are similar but they all have their own story . That's what I love about music.
Rock on.
